omniarchive.uk and all subdomains will now automatically redirect to *.omniarchive.net via a 301 redirect. 99.9% of users will not notice a difference, however for those who may use web clients/libraries that do NOT support 301 redirects for whatever reason should switch the base domain to omniarchive.net.
The way news is stored and shown to the user has been reworked, here's what has changed:
Posts can now be viewed standalone
You might notice the '(Post-only view)' button next to every title, that will take you to a page to view only that post. This is mostly done for SEO and readers, but it's a good feature to have nonetheless.
Clicking a post title on the news page will allow you to copy a URL with the anchor that scrolls directly to that post
Once you click a post title, it will set your current URL to /news#post-id, which can then be copied and sent elsewhere, this anchor will tell browsers to automatically scroll to the element with that ID.
Posts may now have multiple authors, each with optional URLs
You will see in the post header that it's made by 'Dexrn' and 'Also Dexrn', which on click will lead directly to my website. Older posts have been updated to include author links.
Posts edits are now logged, and timestamps now include the time and timezone offset
Edited posts will show a 'Last Updated on' section with the date it was last modified, and post dates will now show with a time and a timezone offset. Older posts have been updated to use a time of midnight on the day the post was originally made.
Better embedding for links to posts via post-only view
Meta tags have been added to posts viewed via post-only view, so sending a link to a post will show proper metadata where supported. Additionally, posts can now contain a list of thumbnails to show on embeds where supported. There is also now an oembed endpoint for extra metadata, which is primarily used by Discord for a primary author name and URL.
RSS support has been improved
Previously, viewing the page through RSS would break due to how tags were removed from the content, this has been fixed. RSS posts now contain more metadata, such as the author and images, and the content is now in the correct tag.
New posts are now displayed correctly
You might have noticed that the post before this (the one mentioning the domain change) never showed up on pages other than the news page... This has been fixed. The cause is still unknown, but it has been fixed with the news system rewrite.
Post files have been moved
Previously, all files and images found in posts were in /news/files, they are now stored in the a folder under the post ID.
Posts are now stored in JSONs
As part of the preparations for a complete website backend rewrite, news posts are now stored as a JSON file for each post. We hope to provide APIs as needed once modernizations are complete. A schema is viewable at /data/news/schemas/post.schema.json, and posts are found under /data/news/{post_id}.json
Our canonical/primary domain is now omniarchive.net. While I did and will continue to make sure that omniarchive.uk cleanly mirrors omniarchive.net, it is still ideal for mentions of the old .uk domain to be switched to the new .net domain for those that mention our website or link to the .uk URL in code.
I am currently reworking the entire infrastructure on which this website (among other things) is hosted on, you may see blips of downtime while this takes place. We now have a status page, which you can view here.
Two days ago on our Discord server, we have released a build of Brickcraft/Rex Kwon Do - the unreleased Mojang and LEGO collaboration that never came to be. The build dates to the 28th of June 2012, around a month before the game's supposed cancellation (sourced from a Notch's tweet in July 2012 saying the game got cancelled). Tho I personally believe it may be one of, if not the last build ever. You can download it here! To run the game, launch the server first and then you can launch the client to join with it. It features a working multiplayer! Please note, that the game only works on NVIDIA graphics cards. To run it on AMD or Intel, you'll have to download a patched version of the shaders made by Grzesiek11.
I have pushed a new version of the website, which includes a mobile friendly layout! It might still have some issues, I will try fixing those as quickly as I can. ~D
Today, we bring you something truly exciting: In celebration of 15 years of Minecraft, we're creating a special podcast series, hosted by our very own ProfessorApple, where we take a deep dive into the history of the game and its community, with multiple special guests along the way. This is Crafting Legends: The Legacy of Minecraft's 15-Year Journey. Be sure to check out the trailer! The first episode will release on February 2nd, with a total of 15 episodes leading up to May 17th. Pages for the show are available now on the Omniarchive website, Spotify, YouTube, and coming soon to Apple Podcasts and other cool podcasting platforms! We hope you'll enjoy it! ~MS
We're on a roll! Another beta pre-reupload has now been found, this time it's a b1.3 one! It removed the starter items and you can crash the game via a trigger on the world menu. It may not seem like much, but it's yet another Minecraft version preserved for the future generations. Until next time, cheers! ~D
Ladies and gentlemen, after almost 10 months, we have finally managed to find a new version - that being a pre-reupload of b1.8-pre2. It has cave spider poisoning, endermen can still pick up illegal items, the creative inventory has no dyes among other things. Here's to more version finds in the future! (I am on the bus atm and my laptop's battery is dying so I can't write more stuff) ~D
Hello! I've pushed an update to the website, which adds a RSS feed for the news section! You can find it omniarchive.uk/rss here. More changes to the site are coming really Soon(tm) + a second announcement later today *winky face*. So with no time to waste, make sure to add us to your favourite RSS client! ~D
As promised, here's a second post of today! If you don't know yet, we have a sister project - The Intra Clinic! It is an archive of games created by Notch other than Minecraft. Recently (thanks, SuperLlama!), we have obtained a previously lost game Dachon4k, and an original jar of Takns. If you'd like to know more, head over to The Intra Clinic's News section. ~D
Hi y'all! I have started working on the 'On this day' section. Since there is a lot of things that could and will be there, it's gonna take at least a month or two for us to fill everything in, so please be patient. Make sure to check the website every day for your daily dose of Minecraft knowledge!
When Notch first added glass to the game - in the version 0.0.19a, people told him it looked more like ice, so he quickly changed it in 0.0.19a_01 to the well known glass texture that has been in the game until the Jappa-fication. Up till today, we had only known this first glass texture as a few blue-ish pixels from far away, which changed with greenslimy finding a video on his old hard drive, featuring himself building a small house - in the version 0.0.19a. It's a good thing he built it with windows, since thanks to him, we now have a very good idea on how the glass looked. Here's the video in it's full Windows XP glory.
Ever wondered what the oldest Minecraft world is? And is it even archived somewhere? The answer is YES! We have recently obtained this file with the amazing help of Ez, who had it saved on her computer all this time. It's quite a famous world also, it was featured in a blog post on The Word of Notch! You can download it here. And to fill up some more space here, here's some screenshots:

(You should ignore the test posts below) Hello there! This is the new Omniarchive website from now on, it's designed to look like and old 90s/00s site, and is best watched on a CRT monitor (If you don't have one, GET IT!) The site is still missing loads of things that I plan adding, so stay tuned!
This article was not written 5 days ago, like the name suggests. It's actually a test to make the "NEW" thing working in the navigation bar. Wonder how long these can be.
